Housing Inspections!

Hey Residents,

Make sure that you keep this in mind for the rest of the week.

How to improve your Meaningful Interpersonal Relationships.

Hey Residents,

November is Meaningful Interpersonal Relationships.  Everyone has them, and everyone needs them to sustain a well-rounded life.  I love my relationships, my favorites are the ones that are with close friends, people that I can sit down with and have a meaningful talk, ones that will know if something is wrong just by looking at me.  I value these above all others, and I definitely don't want to loose them.  So here are some tips for improving and sustaining those relationships.

1. Don't criticize, condemn, or complain about people
2. Appreciate people
3. Solve your own problems by solving other people's problems
4. Be genuinely interested in others
5. Smile
6. Be a good listener
7. Make others feel important
8. Avoid arguing, and understand that you really aren't always right
9. If you're wrong, admit it
10. Save your anger
11. Suggest, don't tell

Make sure that you keep these tips in mind the next time you interact with your friends.  You don't want to loose any friends, especially the close ones, because they are more valuable then you realize and will help you stay sain in times when there is no sanity.

Keep those meaningful interpersonal relationships strong,

Michael

Power Outage and Fire Safety Inspections

Hey Residents,

This weekend there will be a power outage on Sunday from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.  The food thats in your refrigerator will be fine as long as you do not open it for long periods of time.  The DH will be open on Sunday for normal hours.

Also, Fire Safety inspections are going to be on Monday afternoon.  Me and my partner will be starting around 2:30 or 3 on Monday, and we have both buildings to do.  So not exactly sure what time we will be getting to D.  If you want to schedule a time for us to come through let me know but we will be there between 3 and 5.

Thanks and let me know if anyone needs anything.

Roommate Contracts and Hot Water

Hey Residents,

I recently went around and gave everyone a roommate contract.  Please take some time to fill that out with your entire apartment.  This will help prevent some problems that may arise in the future as you all live together.  They are due to me THURSDAY NIGHT by Midnight.  Please just knock on my door, and if I am not here just leave them in the apartment or on the gripper strip outside my door.

There is also an issue with the hot water in the building.  I have already contacted someone to alert them to the situation and filled out a maintenance request.  I am sorry about the inconvenience and hopefully it will get fixed ASAP.

Thank you to everyone that alerted me to the issue and let me know if there are other problems that come up.

Thanks,

Michael

Information for everyone to know!

Hey Residents,

I have some updates that everyone needs to know about so that you don't get fined.

1)  Balconies:  Make sure that you do not have ANY housing furniture on your balconies.  This means no bar stools, or those plastic desk chairs out there.  Also NOTHING can be hanging from the support beams on the balcony.  This includes hammocks (you can have the ones with their own stands with them), bird feeders, flags, greek letters etc.  I walked around the building today and there was a lot of stuff on the balconies that should not be there.  So please make sure that you take the furniture back into your apartment and take down everything that is hanging from the support beams.

2) Roommate Contracts: Tonight or tomorrow I will be walking around handing out the roommate contracts.  Please take sometime to meet as an apartment to complete this contract, because it will help later if there is an issue.  Please keep the white copy and return the yellow copy to my apartment (103) by next THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd at MIDNIGHT.  Let me know if you have questions abou this process.

3)  Don't forget that we have the NV Block Party tomorrow night from 6PM-8PM on G-Field.  We will have free food and some great music and games!  Come out and bring your friends and have some fun!

If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me!

The other is this Friday from 2pm-3pm in NV J 200H.  Edward J. Young, Assistant Director of North Village and Greek Life will be there to answer any questions that you may have.

Passive Programming September: Intellectual Growth

Hey Residents,

September's passive programming is Intellectual Growth.  I know that most people know how to study, but here are some helpful tips to enhance your study habits.  Also, there are a lot of services on campus that can help you in case you need it in a class.  The department of Academic Assistance, in the basement of the library, is there to get you tutors to help you in your classes.  The tutoring program is free.  Go to this link and you will be able to email them for the tutoring services.

Updates for everyone to be aware of!!!

Hey Everyone in Building D,

There are some updates that y'all need know.  The recycling bins are here, and they are in the third floor laundry rooms.  There is enough for every apartment to have ONE.  Please make sure that you only take one, thanks.

The next thing is that I have the roster that everyone in the building needs to come and sign.  Please stop by my apartment and sign the sheet.

The next update is that I am hearing of some parties that have been going on and that building D "is the place to party."  I beg to differ about that.  Please be advised that parties are NOT allowed.  Below is the part in the helmsmen about parties.  The full helmsman can be found by the link on the blog page or on the student life page.  Please be mindful of this, and if someone asks you to be quiet, respect their request.

  • Sponsorship of activities involving the use of alcoholic beverages without written approval by the University. Specifically parties are not allowed in any of the residential buildings or apartments.
Common characteristics of a party can include, but are not limited to any or all of the following: presence of bulk volumes of alcohol, large volume of people, loud music or noise, and/or behavior that draws attention to a student apartment.

The last update is that I will be having a drop in for everyone to come by and meet me, ask questions and grab some FREE PIZZA!!!  It will be next Tuesday, September 6th from 7-9.  Please make sure that you stop by for the free food, and also come by and ask questions about housing policy and other policies like the alcohol and party policies.

Thanks so much and hope that everyone's week is going well.

                    Michael

                    Welcome to North Village D!!

                    Hey Everyone,

Welcome to North Village building D. My name is Michael and I will be your NV CA (Community Assistant) for this school year. I just wanted to make sure that you knew that we have changed the name from RA to CA this year because we want to build a community and not a hall. In other words, I am here just like your RA was before. So if there is ever a situation that you need help with, don't hesitate to give me a call or come by my room (103).

When you first arrive on campus you will probably have noticed that when you signed in you did not sign the normal RIC when you checked in. You signed the new RCR's. We have changed this proces to provide more awareness to what your room looks like when you check in and then on the reverse you notice the prices of what you will be charged if you were to damage something. You will want to make sure that you click on the link to report the damages that are in your room now so that you will not be charged for it at the end of the year. The reason that we did this online is because we want to make sure that we have a record of it and to make it easier for y'all to turn in.

                    https://furman.wufoo.com/forms/north-village-room-condition-report/

I will be using is blog to update you on some of the programming that we will be doing as well as important information that you will need to know. My hope is that you will check this at least once a month because there will be things that you need to know about like fire safety inspections and other maintenance repairs.

Please don't hesitate to email, call me or stop by my room with questions, this is what I am here for.

                    Michael
